Between Olbia and Porto Taverna
The bay of Porto Istana is located at the foot of Capo Ceraso, a granite promontory that belongs to the district of Murta Maria in the Gulf of Olbia. This cove stands out for its four stunning beaches, divided by small cliffs, and for the flourishing Mediterranean scrub with its fascinating red juniper trees and the smell of heather, holm oak, strawberry tree and evergreen olive trees.
The white sandy seabed and the breath-taking colours of the water frame the Island of Tavolara, a big group of calcareous rocks that rises from the sea and looks like a boat with raised sails, that can be admired in all its magnificence from the coast. Porto Istana belongs to the marine park of Tavolara, which is considered a protected environmental heritage, where scuba-divers and enthusiasts can search for marine turtles and old wrecks.
The small district of Murta Maria with its stone wall buildings is a small town where services like boutiques, ATM, newsstand, tobacco shop and markets are available. The town can be reached on foot from the Park Hotel.
